6-23-18 Take it Through the Week
Monday– Genesis 3:6 In the garden of Eden everything was fine. Adam and Eve had everything they needed and were completely free to fulfill God’s Commandment to rule the earth. However that was not a commandment they chose to obey. Instead they chose to pursue an empty, earthly wisdom. That type of “wisdom” was coupled with agreeing to break another commandment. They chose to purposefully disregard God’s Commandment concerning the Tree of Knowledge. They chose a dark wisdom that had promised to make them “…be like God…”  Thus sin entered the world. Read 2 Tim. 3:14-15. While it was the wrong type of wisdom that created fallen man, it is a completely different wisdom that saves us today. God’s Word when sought out, studied, and applied, creates a wisdom unto salvation.  Godly wisdom through faith in Christ Jesus, was God’s answer for man’s search for the selfish wisdom offered by Satan in the Garden of Eden. Through Jesus the wisdom we have received is “profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness”.

Tuesday– James 3:13–18 Who would have thought that wisdom has a gentleness? And yet that is the way we should work and conduct ourselves. That is God’s wisdom given to us by the power of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. The wisdom that comes from God is not selfish. It is “…peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits.” We who purposefully choose the “good fruit” of wisdom are sowing peace just as though we are sowing a garden. We are raising a harvest of righteousness to the praise of His Glory. “Who is wise and understanding among you…”, is the way verse 13 begins. We answer that question by the way we live and follow Him. We who sow in peace and righteousness are eventually, wise and understanding. Lord help us to be more so. Pray with me. Lord help me to have a wise gentleness when dealing with others. Help me to treat others with a godly wisdom given from you and completely dependent on you. You are my God and your Word is wisdom and light for living. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.

Wednesday– 2 Chronicles 1:11–12 God gave Solomon a choice. Solomon could have chosen any blessing from God that he wanted. Solomon asked for wisdom. In asking for understanding to govern God’s people, God not only granted Solomon’s wish, but multiplied Solomon’s blessings. He gave Solomon more than Solomon even knew how to ask for. The reason for such blessing, was that Solomon put his human wants behind his godly needs. Solomon knew that he needed wisdom to fulfill his calling. And God blessed him when he asked. But the blessing was more than he ever thought or imagined. Read Luke 11:10. If you were in Solomon’s place what blessing would you ask God for? Ask Him now.

Thursday– Proverbs 10:13–14 A wise man who collects and stores knowledge knows the day is coming when a trial or a temptation will be upon him. In the hour of trial we need God’s wisdom, prepared and memorized, to be able to stand. That is what the Bible is for, Godly wisdom to help us in our time of need. And then, as we live by that wisdom, we bring glory to the Lord’s Name and we look forward to the coming of His Kingdom. Read 2 Peter 3:10-13 In verse 11 it says “it is clear what sort of people you should be in holy conduct and godliness.” What does that mean to you? Write it below.

Friday– James 1:5  What is God’s heart toward you and I? He not only loves us but wants to provide our needs. And who does not need more wisdom? We need wisdom to raise our children. We need wisdom for Christ-centered homes. Who among us is not over-whelmed at times with the responsibility that has been given to us?  In this verse, God plainly gives us permission to do several things.  First, He tells us to do some self-assessment. He calls us to consider whether we lack wisdom. And, of course the answer for any of us, (if we are rightly related to God), is yes, we do lack wisdom. Wisdom is like love, you can never have too much of it, and there is an almost constant need for more of it. The second thing He tells us to do, is to look in the mirror of our lives. When we see someone in the mirror in need of more wisdom, God says we should simply ask. And because of who He is, and who He wants us to be, He gives it to all who ask. Not because we deserve it, or because we are worthy but because He is all that He says He is. Read Isa. 33:5-6.

Saturday–  Deuteronomy 4:5–7  “So that”, is one of the most beautiful concepts in the scriptures. Many times the Lord God explains what He has done, “so that”, it will be beneficial to us in one way, or another. Here He says that He has given us His Word. His purpose in giving the Israelites his “statutes and ordinances” is so that they can possess the land He is giving them. The reward was completely dependent on their embracing and following the commands He had given them. The principle is the same for us today. He is still looking for a people that will obey Him. And if they will, then He will. Read 1 Peter 2:9 He is creating a “Holy Nation”.  If you and I will obey Him, He will make us a “people for His possession.”  List three areas in your life you need to obey God.
