5-28/29-2022 The Seven I Am’s of Jesus
Exodus 3:14 “God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this
to the people of Israel: ‘I AM has sent me to you.””
Jesus told them ahead of time that there would be false Messiah’s.
Luke 21:8 “And he said, “See that you are not led astray. For many will
come in my name, saying, ‘I am he!’ and, ‘The time is at hand!’ Do not
go after them.” (Mt. 24:4-5, Mark 13:5-6, 2 Tim. 3:13-15)
Luke 7:19–20 “ 19 calling two of his disciples to him, sent them to the
Lord, saying, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for
another?” 20 And when the men had come to him, they said, “John the
Baptist has sent us to you, saying, ‘Are you the one who is to come,
or shall we look for another?’”
Jesus began to identify himself very specifically.
John 8:24 “I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you
believe that I am he you will die in your sins.””
John 8:28 “So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of
Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my
own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me.”
What did He tell before it takes place?
John 13:19 “I am telling you this now, before it takes place, that when it
does take place you may believe that I am he.”
John 13:11 “For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he
said, “Not all of you are clean.””
John 13:18 “I am not speaking of all of you; I know whom I have
chosen. But the Scripture will be fulfilled, ‘He who ate my bread has
lifted his heel against me.’”
John 13:26–27 “ 26 Jesus answered, “It is he to whom I will give this
morsel of bread when I have dipped it.” So when he had dipped the
morsel, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. 27 Then after he
had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him,
“What you are going to do, do quickly.””
Why did the mob fall?
John 18:5–6 “ 5 They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to
them, “I am he.” Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them. 6
When Jesus said to them, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the
ground.”
Matthew 26:53–54 “ 53 Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father,
and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? 54
But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?””
He set them free. He didn’t set Himself free.
John 18:7–8 “ 7 So he asked them again, “Whom do you seek?” And they
said, “Jesus of Nazareth.” 8 Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. So,
if you seek me, let these men go.””
John 8:36 “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
